The maximum flow rate of a plumbing fixture (shower heads, faucets, toilets) are regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). WaterSense labels products that are 20 percent more water-efficient and perform as well as or better than standard models.
WaterSense, a voluntary partnership program sponsored by the EPA, is both a label for water-efficient products and a resource for helping you save water.
Installing low-flow HIGH EFFICIENCY faucet aerators on your existing kitchen and bathroom faucet(s) is an easy and inexpensive way to save water.
Also, replacing old inefficient faucets with new faucets meeting the EPA’s current regulations or water-sense label can save a ton of water.
The following chart show the reduction in flow rates as a result of EPA standards and voluntarily programs.
